I think freedom of sexuality is something that we all need and very few of us have

I think sexual pleasure is a legitimate thing to want and ethically pursue

I do not judge people for the (consensual) sex that they have or want

I will not tolerate slut-shaming

I will not tolerate hatred of people based on gender or orientation (including asexual)

I will not tolerate hatred of sex workers

I believe comprehensive, honest, non-judgmental sex education is necessary for public health and happiness

I think understanding of sexual consent—what it is, why it matters—is sorely lacking in society and crucially important

I reject preconceptions of what kind of sexuality a person should have, whether these preconceptions are based on gender, age, culture, disability, survivor status, or basically anything else

I value people’s individual freedom of choice in determining their sex lives (including the choices not to have sex)

What I Don’t Mean

Everyone should have sex

Everyone should have kinky, non-monogamous, exhibitionistic, pansexual sex

Accepting someone’s sexuality means you have to participate in it, watch them engage in it, or hear about it in detail

Nothing related to sex is ever hurtful for anyone

Feminism should be all about sex

But we don’t have a word for the conscious act of destroying the planet we live on, the world as humanity had known it until, historically speaking, late last night. A possibility might be “terracide” from the Latin word for earth. It has the right ring, given its similarity to the commonplace danger word of our era: terrorist.

The truth is, whatever we call them, it’s time to talk bluntly about the terrarists of our world. Yes, I know, 9/11 was horrific. Almost 3,000 dead, massive towers down, apocalyptic scenes. And yes, when it comes to terror attacks, the Boston Marathon bombings weren’t pretty either. But in both cases, those who committed the acts paid for or will pay for their crimes.

In the case of the terrarists — and here I’m referring in particular to the men who run what may be the most profitable corporations on the planet, giant energy companies like ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, BP, and Shell — you’re the one who’s going to pay, especially your children and grandchildren. You can take one thing for granted: not a single terrarist will ever go to jail, and yet they certainly knew what they were doing.

Saw this somewhere else and felt the need to post it cause no one else ever really tells you this stuff

My mom never really noticed. She noticed when she was breast feeding my little brother and blood started coming out instead of milk.

My mom said she felt and saw a little lump in the shower. She was lucky enough she found it at stage 2

My mom had a mammogram. The radiologist thought the spots were just regular calcium deposits.

Turns out it was triple negative breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nods. Mastectomy, radiation and chemo saved her life.

This could SAVE a life.

Signal BOOST and pass it on. I had a breast cancer scare before (luckily it was just scar tissue…) and information like this kept me calm and collected at the doc’s.

A dollar goes in the Strax Box every time posters commenting on something I’ve written assume I’m male despite my name being clearly visible.

Ten dollars go in the Strax Box every time something I’ve written is credited to Wil Wheaton.

When the box is full, I’m going to buy a bottle of really good Scotch and donate the rest to a women-in-media charity.

HOWEVER.

Someone on Twitter had the idea of setting up a pledge drive—not ongoing, none of us could afford it, but, say, for a month—where people would pledge to donate a certain amount to a specific women-in-media charity for every commenter who assumes I’m male in the comments or any other direct response to anything I write that month. Wouldn’t have to be a lot—even just a penny a “he” for 30 days would add up pretty fast.

Would anyone be game for that?

My friend Rachel, who writes for Wired, had an idea.
